Found By The Hound Therapy Dog Team

Our Therapy Dog Team started with the community in mind. Therapy Teams visit Schools, Special Ed. Units, Aged Care Facilities, Hospitals etc and brighten up the lives of others. At Found By The Hound we strongly believe in giving back to the community and our Therapy Team is one of the many ways we love to contribute. If you would like to join us, then you will find that taking your best friend to visit with those who are unable to experience the joy that comes with pet ownership is extremely fulfilling.

To ensure a positive experience for all concerned, we work closely with all our volunteers and match the right dog and owner with the right facility. Whether you can commit to one visit a week, or one visit a month, we can organise a schedule suitable for you.

We are dedicated to making our Therapy Team a big family of volunteers. We have monthly training sessions/meet ups that allow us to assist you in not only developing and furthering your dog's training, but to also bring our volunteers together.

If you don't have a dog but would still like to be involved call us on either 0416 072 724 or 0405 125 117 to discuss the many options.

Volunteer Information
 - Register your interest in volunteering
 - One of our trainers will contact you to discuss the details (either via email or phone)
 - The Rules and Regulations will be sent to you to familiarise yourself with and sign to "agree"
 - Your dog will be required to complete a behaviour assessment. This is designed to determine your dog's suitability for visits. If your dog passes you will be invited to join the team.  If your dog is unsuccessful, we will discuss some different training options you may wish to look at. You will be able to resit the assessment in 3 months.
 - Once you have joined the team you will be required to pay $120 inital membership fee. This fee provides you with public liability insurance, a team shirt, a therapy dog jacket and 12 mths membership.
 - All team shirts, and dog jackets are made to order so once payment is recieved you should expect your team shirt and therapy jacket to arrive in 2-3 weeks time.
 - You will then be assigned a centre (this centre will be discussed with you to ensure it is a good fit) We try and match people, dogs and centres up to ensure that all participants are happy.
 - Your first visit to a centre will be without your dog. To help run you through the process and familiarise yourself with how the visits operate.
 - You will then have 2 supervised visits with your dog and a mentor to help you. Your mentor will help you when necessary and watch your dog for signs of being overwhelmed or tired.
 - We have monthly training sessions/meet ups with all our volunteers to bring unity to our team and help you and your dog further develop your training skills or trouble shoot any issues. You will be required to come to our training days for 2 hours on the 3rd Sunday of every month in the morning.
 - Ongoing costs and procedures:
           - every 12 months, if you wish to remain on the team, you will be charged $30.  This is purely to cover the public liablity insurance.
           - you and your dog will be required to sit a behaviour assessment once every 6 months to ensure your              dog is still suitable for visits. (Long term members will have this extended to once every 12 months)

We are happy to answer any questions you may have or provide you with more information so please don't hesitate to  ......
